Our community work showcased in ITN film
The community work of Bedfordshire based housing association, Aldwyck Housing Group has been captured in a film in partnership with ITN Productions and the Chartered Institute of Housing.
The four-minute film captures how the organisation’s Young Persons Service and Community Involvement teams work with the young people in its communities to reduce problem activity, such as anti-social behaviour, and provides skills to help them live independent lives.
Filmed at YPS scheme Rose Court in Hertford, the programme demonstrates the value of the organisation’s work through the case study of one former service user and one of Aldwyck’s youth volunteers. On the day of the filming, a Youth Council meeting took place. At the Council meetings, the young attendees are encouraged to give feedback about the service they receive and any changes that may be made to it. The contributors are rewarded for their time, in this case a trip to nearby Lea Valley White Water Centre.
Said Rhys Evans, Community Engagement Manager at Aldwyck, “Through a number of initiatives we run, such as our Youth Council, young leaders programme, youth clubs and our successful annual summer programme we are able to help to give our young people opportunities they may not otherwise get. It is brilliant to see how someone who joined one of our youth clubs is just a few years later running an activity and providing support to other young people.
“Not many housing associations specialise in youth engagement as part of the wider community work to the extent we do. We’re proud of the positive contribution we’re able to make and this short film, produced by ITN Productions for the Chartered Institute of Housing, captures this beautifully.”
The programme, which features key industry interviews and news-style reports along with sponsored editorial profiles, can be viewed on YouTube.
