The SUM in Beds project

SUM being the acronym for Support to Understand your Money.

SUM is one of three Building Better Opportunities (BBO) projects and focuses on barriers to employment, particularly where the management of personal finances is problematic. SUM covers residents in Central Bedfordshire, Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes.

This BBO project is to support unemployed or economically inactive individuals to improve their financial capability and tackle out of work barriers which will enable them to be more job ready, and in the longer term move into work. The funding for the project is provided by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund.

Anyone who will directly benefit from the project is a ‘participant’. Each participant must be eligible to receive support and you will need to report a range of personal information about yourself.  Anyone is eligible to receive this support if they are within the scope of the project outline that will be delivered.  This would be if they are unemployed or economically inactive, they are legal residents in the UK and able to take paid employment in European Union member states.
